Online Fellowship Applications
Members of SASES are able to apply for one of a number of possible fellowships.
Fellowships are only open to surgeons registered to practice in South Africa.
These are described in detail below.
These fellowships are likely to be postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Dates of travel are subject to restrictions caused by the outbreak of COVID-19 in various destination countries.
Hernia Interest Group Fellowships are a separate application process. You may apply for both fellowships but you need to submit the HIG application separately.

STORZ-SASES Laparoscopic Fellowship
The fellowship will be based at the Klinikum St. Elisabeth in Straubing Bavaria, Germany, where the candidate will be supervised by Professor Markus Walz, world expert in minimally invasive surgery. It is envisaged that the …
Medtronic travelling Fellowship
The fellowship will be based at the Amsterdam Medical Centre, where the candidate will be supervised by Professor Willem Bemelman, a world expert in minimally invasive surgery. It is envisaged that the trainee would spend at least 12 weeks focusing on advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
Ethicon-SASES Travelling Fellowship sponsored by Ethicon Endo-Surgery
The visiting fellow will be attending the University Hospital in Leuven Belgium, where he/ she will be working in the department of Abdominal Surgery under the supervision of Professor Andre D’Hoore.
Surgical Skills Training Center

SASES was integrally involved in the development of a national laparoscopic skills centre, where a wide range of laparoscopic and surgical skills courses are offered, catering for all levels of experience.
